Arquitectura basada en contexto para el soporte del servicio de VoD de IPTV móvil, apoyada en sistemas de recomendaciones y Streaming adaptativo

Abstract

Dentro de los servicios de distribución de contenidos multimedia de IPTV, se destaca por los beneficios económicos brindados y por la amplia difusión en portales como Youtube, Vimeo y Netflix, el servicio por suscripción de VoD, el cual consiste básicamente en una aplicación que permite el acceso al contenido multimedia en el momento exacto que el usuario lo desee. A pesar de las ventajas del servicio de VoD, este tiene asociadas un conjunto de retos relacionados con el acceso ágil y el consumo adecuado del contenido multimedia por parte de los usuarios, las cuales son tomadas como principal foco de estudio en la presente investigación. Para abordar los anteriores retos, este trabajo planteó el enriquecimiento de la arquitectura del servicio de VoD, teniendo en cuenta el concepto de contexto en telecomunicaciones y sus dimensiones asociadas (usuario, dispositivo, red y servicio). Así, en este trabajo se propuso como objetivo general: Proporcionar una arquitectura basada en contexto para el soporte del servicio de VoD de IPTV móvil, apoyada en sistemas de recomendaciones y streaming adaptativo. Para cumplir este objetivo, se definieron los siguientes objetivos específicos: Adaptar e implementar un entorno para la codificación, difusión y consumo de streaming adaptativo, soportado en el estándar DASH; Diseñar un filtro de recomendación para el servicio de VoD de IPTV Móvil, teniendo en cuenta un algoritmo de clasificación e inferencia de contenidos multimedia, de acuerdo a información del contexto de usuario; Diseñar e implementar una arquitectura basada en contexto para el soporte del servicio de VoD de IPTV Móvil, teniendo en cuenta sistemas de recomendaciones y streaming adaptativo; Evaluar el funcionamiento del sistema de recomendaciones, y del entorno de transmisión de streaming adaptativo, mediante un caso de estudio del servicio de VoD de contenidos multimedia musicales.

Within the services of distribution of multimedia contents of IPTV, stands out for the economic benefits provided and for the wide diffusion in portals like Youtube, Vimeo and Netflix, the subscription service of VoD, which basically consists of an application that allows the access to multimedia content at the exact moment the user wishes. In spite of the advantages of the VoD service, this one has associated a set of challenges related to the agile access and the adequate consumption of the multimedia content by the users, which are taken as main focus of study in the present investigation. In order to address the above challenges, this work proposed the enrichment of the VoD service architecture, taking into account the context concept in telecommunications and its associated dimensions (user, device, network and service). Thus, in this work it was proposed as a general aim: Provide a context-based architecture for the support of the mobile IPTV VoD service, supported by adaptive streaming and recommender systems. To achieve this objective, the following specific aims were defined: Adapt and implement an environment for the coding, diffusion and consumption of adaptive streaming, supported in the DASH standard; Design a recommendation filter for the mobile IPTV VoD service, taking into account an algorithm for classification and inference of multimedia contents, according to user context information; Design and implement a context-based architecture for the support of the Mobile IPTV VoD service, taking into account adaptive streaming and recommender systems; Evaluate the performance of the recommender systems, and the adaptive streaming transmission environment,
