Design and evaluation of virtual learning objects for the identification of the use of three-token phrasal verbs by intermediate english students of the bachelor in Modern Languages with Emphasis on English and French at Universidad del Cauca

Abstract

El objetivo de esta investigación fue diseñar y evaluar objetos virtuales de aprendizaje (OVAs) para la identificación del uso de verbos frasales de tres tokens (VFTT) por parte de los estudiantes de inglés intermedio del Programa de Licenciatura en Lenguas Modernas con énfasis en Inglés y Francés (PLLMEIF). En primera instancia, se realizó un análisis de los elementos del objeto de aprendizaje de acuerdo a la metodología DICREVOA. Posteriormente, se realizó la identificación y el análisis de los VFTT por medio de un corpus electrónico, el cual brindó información detallada en cuanto a su frecuencia de uso en sus diferentes géneros escritos y hablados, permitiendo escoger los nueve verbos más pertinentes para esta investigación. Después se procedió a elaborar el diseño instruccional de los OVAs. Del mismo modo, se elaboró el diseño multimedial, en esta fase, se utilizaron herramientas informáticas con el fin de establecer la estructura general del objeto de aprendizaje. Por último, se aplicaron dos evaluaciones por medio de dos cuestionarios, Cuestionario de Satisfacción de Estudiantes de un Objeto de Aprendizaje (CUSEOA) y Cuestionario de Calidad de los Objetos de Aprendizaje (COdA), con el propósito de evaluar la calidad de los objetos de aprendizaje. Los resultados de dichas evaluaciones fueron positivas.

The objective of this study was to design and evaluate virtual learning objects (VLOs) for the identification of the use of three-token phrasal verbs (TTPVs) by intermediate English students of the Bachelor in Modern Languages with emphasis on English and French (BMLEF). First, an analysis of the elements of the learning object was carried out according to the methodology DICREVOA. Subsequently, the identification and analysis of the TTPVs was carried out by means of electronic corpus, which provided detailed information regarding their frequency of use in their different written and spoken genres, making it possible to choose the nine most relevant verbs for this research. The instructional design of the VLO was then elaborated. In the same way, multimedia design was created; in this phase, computer tools were used to establish the general structure of the learning object. Finally, two evaluations were administered by means of two questionnaires, Students’ Satisfaction Evaluation on the use of Virtual Learning Objects (CUSEOA) and Evaluation Instrument for Learning Object Quality (COdA), in order to evaluate the quality of the learning objects. The results of these evaluations were positive.
