El presente trabajo es un apoyo brindado al departamento administrativo de gestión del medio ambiente DAGMA, en la aplicación de los sistemas de información geográfica (SIG), para la georreferenciación y caracterización florística en el Ecoparque Las Garzas ubicado en la comuna 22, zona urbana de la ciudad de Cali.
Mediante un GPSMAP 62sc se determinó el área del Ecoparque y con ayuda del programa ARCGIS 10.2 se elaboró la cartografía respectiva para el mismo; partiendo de esta información se realizó la caracterización florística, el levantamiento de la vegetación arbórea se realizó mediante la instalación de 14 transectos de 20x40m. Los datos obtenidos se procesaron en una base de datos Microsoft Access 2013. Se registraron un total de 549 individuos correspondientes a 79 especies, 42 géneros agrupadas en 32 familias. Las especies con mayor IVI fueron Guarea guidoia 49.72%, Picteia acueleta 36.43%, estas representaron el mayor peso ecológico para el Ecoparque. La curva especie / área se estabilizo a los 11200m² por tanto el muestreo fue representativo. Según los indicies calculados de Margalef y Shannon el Ecoparque presenta alta diversidad de especies.
