Se realizó una identificación de especies forestales en cuatro fincas ubicadas en los municipios de El Tambo, Piendamó, Popayán y Timbío; con el método de colecta libre se registraron en planillas de campo datos del nombre común de las especies, ubicación de las especies en el sistema agroforestal, uso local y la georreferenciación de los lotes del sistema café y ganado; las muestras colectadas en campo se identificaron en el herbario de la Universidad del Cauca. La sistematización permitió determinar que el 63% de las especies identificadas se encuentran en el sistema ganado y un 37% de las especies en el sistema agroforestal cafetero. En la identificación arbórea y arbustiva, en el sistema ganado realizada en las cuatro fincas, se encontraron 34 familias botánicas, compuestas por 59 géneros y 59 especies, entre estas la familia Melastomataceae es la más representativa, en cuanto a la categoría de uso la cerca viva es la más empleada con un 26%.
En el sistema cafetero se encontraron 23 familias botánicas las cuales están compuestas por 35 géneros y 34 especies, identificando a la familia Fabaceae como la más representativa, la categoría de uso más empleada es el sombrío con un 28%. La información de las especies se espacializarón en un sistema de información geográfica elaborado en arcgis 9.3.
